Scale AI data partnership: who qualifies, what it pays and how the referral works
A Scale AI data partnership licenses de-identified records from the systems your company already runs, such as Snowflake, Slack, Gmail, Jira and Salesforce, and Scale publishes an illustrative value of $10K to $1M+ per data partnership, scaling with cadence. Scale says 40+ employees is its preferred starting point, and it pays a referral bonus of up to $50,000 only if it signs a partnership agreement.

What Scale AI licenses through its data partnership
Scale AI licenses de-identified, structured records from the systems your teams already use, never the raw systems themselves. Scale's data partnership page names six groups of sources:
| Source group | Systems Scale names | What Scale says it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Data warehouses | BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks | Table schemas and the structured records behind them |
| Chat and messaging | Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat | Conversation histories, threads, participants and reply structure |
| Email and calendar | Gmail, Outlook, Google Calendar | Email threads and event details, with senders, recipients and invitees |
| Documents and files | Word, Docs, Slides, Excel, Sheets, Drive, SharePoint | File contents plus metadata, authorship and timestamps |
| Work and knowledge | Jira, Confluence, Asana, Notion, Linear | Tickets, wikis and project records with their history |
| Business platforms | Salesforce, HubSpot, Workday, ServiceNow, SAP, Zendesk | CRM, HR, ERP and support records |
Scale says it anonymizes everything inside your environment before any data is extracted. De-identification means removing names and anything else that points to a person. Scale lists employee and customer identities, raw systems, credentials and source access as things that never leave.
Scale also says a partnership can start with a narrow scope, so you do not have to license every system at once. Pick the one or two systems with the longest history before your first call.
Who qualifies for a Scale AI data partnership
Scale states that "40+ employees is our preferred starting point," and that it assesses every partnership case by case. Beyond headcount, Scale looks for four things:
- Established data systems: years of records in the tools your teams already run on.
- Real operational workflows: day-to-day processes, not demos or synthetic data.
- Domain depth: specialized expertise that makes your records hard to replicate.
- Stakeholder alignment: one owner who can scope the partnership and approve each data package.
Scale lists industries from software, MSPs and DTC e-commerce to manufacturing, freight brokerage, field services and property management. Its list also includes law firms, healthcare, staffing and education. Topology Partners does not introduce law firms, accounting firms, banks, defense contractors, schools, staffing firms or anyone holding patient health data.
If you have 40 or more employees, or fewer with years of warehouse or CRM history, Scale belongs on your list.
What Scale AI publishes about data partnership value
Scale publishes "$10K–$1M+" as the "illustrative value per data partnership, scaling with cadence." That is Scale's own figure, read 2026-10-25, and it is not an offer for your company.
Scale describes the partnership as recurring. Its page calls it "not a one-time file transfer," and its FAQ says Scale designs partnerships so there is opportunity for recurring revenue. Value therefore depends on how often you deliver new records, not only on the first package.
Scale does not publish an estimator, a price list or a typical value by company size. Your number comes from Scale's own scoping call. Ask for the first-delivery price and the per-delivery price as separate lines.
How the Scale AI data partnership referral works
The Scale AI referral runs through Scale's "Refer a team" form on its data partnership page, not through a personal link. Scale states that referrals must be submitted through its official referral process.
With your written OK, I submit the form with the name and email of the person at your company who will own the partnership. Scale then contacts that person directly. I keep the confirmation as the record of the introduction.
Scale offers two paths on the same page, "Apply to partner" and "Refer a team." When I refer you, use the thread Scale starts with you and skip the application form.
What Scale AI pays Topology Partners for a referral
Scale publishes a referral bonus of up to $50,000, paid only if Scale signs a partnership agreement with your company. If Scale does not sign, Scale pays nothing.
You pay nothing, and the fee never comes out of your contract. Scale does not publish how the bonus varies within that cap. The full disclosure for every buyer is on the fees section and in the referral fee comparison.
Scale AI referral attribution: the first introducer only
Scale pays one referral per deal, to whoever first introduces Scale to the right stakeholder at your company. Scale's FAQ says that "multiple referrals or intros to the same company will not be paid out."
That rule is why you should not submit Scale's form, or apply directly, after asking me to introduce you. A second submission is a second intro to the same company, and Scale pays at most one. It changes nothing in Scale's published terms for you; it can cancel the referral you asked me to make.
If you or anyone at your company has already talked with Scale about a data partnership, tell me first. I will leave Scale off your list and introduce you to the other buyers you fit.
What to get in writing from Scale AI
Get seven terms written into your Scale contract before the first package leaves your systems:
- De-identification method. Scale says it anonymizes inside your environment and strips personal information. Ask which method it uses, who checks it and whether you see samples first.
- Deletion at term end. Scale's page does not describe retention or deletion. Write a deletion date and written confirmation of deletion into the contract.
- Use limits. Scale says the AI companies using the records model roles such as a marketer or a finance employee. State that use, and nothing broader, in the contract.
- Named-competitor exclusions. List the competitors that may never receive your records, by name.
- The country question. Scale's page does not say where the AI companies that use the records are based. If it matters to you, we ask every buyer in writing; any that refuses comes off your list.
- Delivery cadence. Scale prices value "scaling with cadence." Fix how often you deliver, and for how long.
- What each delivery pays. Get the price of the first package and of every later delivery as separate, written numbers.
Scale says no data leaves without your approval of each package. Name who at your company signs that approval. Your lawyer decides the final wording, and the checklist for counsel lists what they will check.
What Scale AI does not publish
Scale does not publish several terms you may want before you sign, so ask for them in writing:
- Typical referral bonus by deal size. Scale publishes "up to $50,000" and nothing about how the amount is set.
- Payment timing. Scale does not say when it pays your company after a delivery, or when it pays the referral bonus after signing.
- Exclusivity. Scale's page does not say whether it asks for exclusivity. Ask before you compare any offers from other buyers.
- Who counts as the right stakeholder. Scale pays for an intro to "the right stakeholder" without defining the role.
Questions owners ask
How much does a Scale AI data partnership pay?
Scale publishes $10K to $1M+ as the illustrative value per data partnership, scaling with cadence (read 2026-10-25). Scale does not publish a price list or a typical figure by company size. Your number comes from Scale's own scoping of your records.
Does my company need 40 employees for a Scale AI data partnership?
Scale says 40+ employees is its preferred starting point and that it assesses every partnership case by case. It also looks for established data systems, real operational workflows, domain depth and a clear internal owner. A smaller company with years of records in a data warehouse may still be worth an introduction.
Who de-identifies the records in a Scale AI data partnership?
Scale does. Scale says it anonymizes everything inside your environment before any data is extracted, and that employee and customer identities never leave. Topology Partners never receives, scopes, de-identifies or moves your records.
What does Scale AI pay Topology Partners for a referral?
Scale publishes a referral bonus of up to $50,000, paid only if Scale signs a partnership agreement with your company. You pay nothing, and the fee never comes out of your contract. Scale does not publish how the bonus varies by deal size.
Can I fill in Scale's form myself after asking Topology Partners to introduce me?
Please don't. Scale pays one referral per deal, to whoever first introduces Scale to the right stakeholder, and it does not pay for multiple intros to the same company. A second submission from you can cancel the referral you asked me to make.
Is a Scale AI data partnership a one-time payment?
Scale says it designs its partnerships so there is opportunity for recurring revenue, and calls them continuous rather than a one-time file transfer. Get the delivery cadence and what each delivery pays written into the contract.
Does Scale AI ask for exclusivity?
Scale's data partnership page does not say. Ask before you sign, and get the answer in the contract, so you can still compare any offers from other buyers.
How Topology Partners is paid
Topology Partners is paid by buyers, never by you. When you sign with a buyer that runs a referral program, that buyer pays us a referral fee. Here is what each buyer publishes, as we read it on October 24, 2026:
- micro1: $50,000 for deals up to $700,000, or 7.5% of deal value above that; $75,000 for a company that has shut down, on deals up to $1M. micro1 pays by wire after it has received and approved the data.
- Mercor: 5% of the signed deal, up to $100,000. Each Mercor listing sets its own cap, currently $25,000 to $92,500. Paid after your first data delivery.
- Scale AI: up to $50,000, paid only if Scale signs a partnership with you.
- Handshake AI: $10,000, paid once your data transfer is completed and accepted.
- Turing (Project Lazarus): up to $10,000 when a referral “becomes a deal”. Turing doesn't define what that means.
- Troveo: a marketplace with no referral program. It pays us nothing.
Some buyers pay us more than others. Here is what that means for you:
- 01You pay nothing. No fee to us, at any point, whether or not you sign.
- 02Nothing comes out of your contract. The buyer pays our fee separately; it is never deducted from what you're paid.
- 03You see our fee first. Before any introduction, we tell you in writing what each buyer pays us.
- 04You can strike any buyer. Including the ones that pay us most. Offers come straight to you, and the final choice, including “none”, is yours.
No buyer pays us to be listed or ranked on this site.
