Is it safe to license your company's records?
Done with care, yes. You decide what goes in, personal details come out before a buyer uses anything, and your lawyer reads the contract before you sign.
Costs you nothing, four quick questions, about a minute, no files
Nothing goes out without your OK
You choose which systems and which years a buyer may look at, and you can hold anything back. Finding out what your records could be worth takes four answers, with no files, logins or samples. Topology Partners never receives, holds or moves your records. If you sign, the buyer handles them under its own contract with you.
Personal details come out before use
Buyers license records of how the work gets done. Before they use them, they remove or replace customer names, emails, phone numbers and other identifying details. Each buyer runs its own process, so make sure the agreement you approve describes it in plain words.
Some data stays out of every license we introduce: patient health records, card and bank details, passwords and credentials, export-controlled data, and anything a client contract restricts.
Read your client contracts first
Client contracts can stop a license. Some say the records belong to the client, or limit how you may use or share them, and at least one buyer excludes records your clients own. Read yours before you sign anything. If a clause is unclear, ask your lawyer. Topology Partners is not a law firm, and this page is not legal advice. Our page for counsel lists what your lawyer should check.
Get these in writing
- Which systems and which years are in scope.
- How personal details are removed, and who checks the work.
- Who can see the records, and for how long.
- Whether the raw records are deleted at the end of the term, with a deletion certificate.
- What the buyer may use the records for, and a ban on reselling them.
- No transfer to China or other countries of concern. On request, we ask every buyer for this in writing, and any buyer that refuses comes off your list.
Our privacy policy covers how we handle your details.
Questions owners ask about safety
Do you need my records to give me an estimate?
No. The estimate runs on four answers about your company. You send no files, logins or samples, and Topology Partners never receives, holds or moves your records.
Who decides what goes into a license?
You do. You choose which systems and which years a buyer may scope, and you can hold anything back. Nothing goes to a buyer without your written OK, and nothing is final until you sign the buyer's contract.
What happens to customer names and other personal details?
The buyer removes or replaces names, emails, phone numbers and other identifying details before it uses the records. Each buyer runs its own process, so the agreement you approve should describe it in writing.
Do you sign an NDA?
Yes. We sign a mutual NDA with your company before you share even record counts. Ask each buyer for its own NDA before it scopes your data.
Can a client contract stop this?
Sometimes. Some client agreements say the records belong to the client, or limit how you may use or share them. Read yours before you sign anything, and ask your lawyer about any clause you're unsure of.
Is this legal advice?
No. Topology Partners is not a law firm. We tell you what we see in the market, and your lawyer should read any agreement before you sign it.
